Tesmer, Charles P. (26 Oct. 1870 - 21 Feb. 1953)
Charles P. Tessmer of Colby, Wisconsin, a retired railroad foreman, died at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital Saturday, Feb. 21, at the age of 82 years, after a lingering illness of two years duration. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Lulloff Funeral Home, Rev. Harrison of Abbotsford officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Grand sons acted as pall bearers and were Floyd, Darrell, Claude and Herman Sossaman of Milwaukee, Ralph Sossaman of Colby and Douglas Sossaman of Korea with Junior Tesmer as stand-in for the latter. Flowers were in charge of grand daughters - Shelby and Judy Passehl and Dixie, Marcie, Ruby, Beverly and Bonnie Sossaman.
Mr. Tessmer was born in Lomira on October 26, 1870, and came to this community with his parents when a small child. He married Pauline Hecker in Colby, Wisconsin on November 25, 1893.
Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Axel (Helen) Anderson of Montebello, Calif., Mrs. Wallace (Florence) Sossaman of Colby and Mrs. Ernest (June) Passehl of Stratford; 14 grand children; nine great grand children; one brother, Herman J. Tessmer of Colby; one sister, Mrs. Otto Detjens of Phillips. One son died in infancy.
Mr. Tessmer, who will be remembered by many people of Colby as Grandpa Charley, was a good Christian, honest in all his dealings, and, being of a generous and friendly disposition, had many friends, many of whom have already passed on. He was a man who united sound sense with strong convictions, and got along well with everyone, including men under him while a Soo Line bridge crew foreman.
Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Sossaman and family, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Sossaman and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sossaman, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Sossaman, Mrs. Helene DeBuhr, Mrs. Alma Kolander and Miss Alma Tesmer of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Tessmer of Tomahawk, Otto Detjens and Bud Hegg of Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Passehl, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Passehl, Jr., of Stratford, Mrs. Frank Zeich of Wausau.
