Schmitt, Verjean Helen (Marriage - 18 Aug. 1954)
Miss Verjean Helen Schmitt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse Schmitt of Colby, and Lawrence Kunze of Abbotsford, son of Joseph Kunze, were united in marriage in St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby, Wis., Wednesday morning, August 18, Rev. Vincent Schwartz reading the marriage vows.
The bride wore a floor-length net-over-satin gown with a lace jacket over a lace strapless bodice. She held a cascade bouquet of red roses, gladioli and stephanotis and her finger-tip veil was secured in a beaded cap edged with lace as she approached the altar on the arm of her father.
Miss Mary Ann Schmitt of Evanston, Ill., sister of the bride, as maid of honor, wore an orchid-colored formal of net over taffeta with lace bodice and bolero jacket and carried a cascade of matching carnations. Mrs. Ted Kulas of Abbotsford, sister of the groom, was bridesmaid. She wore an identically styled Nile green gown enhanced by a bouquet of matching carnations.
The groom was attended by his cousin, Donald Kunze of Abbotsford, as best man and the bride’s brother, Linus Schmitt, as groomsman.
After the ceremony, a wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride’s parents, and, later, a dinner and supper were served in St. Mary’s School gymnasium. A reception was held at the Schmitt home and a dance was given at the Colby Park Pavilion.
Both the bride and groom are graduates of Colby High School. The groom is employed on his father’s farm.
Out of town guests were present from Cloquet, Minn., Long Beach, Calif., Chicago, Ill., Detroit, Mich., Wauzeka, Glidden, Chippewa Falls, Marshfield, Stratford, Columbus and Athens.
