Whittlinger, Harvey (1899 - 9 Oct. 1954)

Harvey Whittlinger of the town of Green Grove, Clark County, ended his life by hanging Saturday morning at the age of 55 years. His body was found in the barn. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby, Wis., Rev. William C. Grafe, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran church of Green Grove officiating, and internment was made in the Green Grove cemetery.

Members of the family told Clark county officials that Whittlinger had been despondent since he sold his farm on September 27, preparatory to moving to Abbotsford, Wis. Frank Dobes, Clark county sheriff, and John Bergemann, Clark county coroner, both of Neillsville, investigated the death. The coroner said there would be no inquest.

Whittlinger was born in the town of Beaver, Clark county, and farmed all his life in the Colby area. He was married on October 20, 1922, to Hilda Scheer in the Green Grove Lutheran church.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Paul of Milwaukee and Vern of Abbotsford; four grand children; one brother, Charles of Amery; seven sisters, Mrs. Milton Sangstad and Mrs. Meta Miller of Milwaukee, Mrs. Lena Bauer of the state of Washington, Mrs. Viola Lang and Mrs. Gertrude Becker of Owen, Mrs. Esther Ayer of Unity and Mrs. Clara Clouse of Loyal.
