PIONEER RESIDENT DIES THURSDAY
Martin Leichtnam, was born in the Province of Ontario, Canada, October 20, 1840, and died at the home of his son Ed Leichtnam just west of Abbotsford, Wis., Thursday, Feb 2, 1928, aged 87 years, 3 months and 12 days, death being due to angina Pectoris.
When about ten years of age Mr. Leichtnam came to the United States with his parents, stopping for a time in Michigan. After several moves to different localities in Wisconsin they came an settled on the homestead in the Town of Colby, about 1 ½ miles Southwest of Abbotsford, nearly 50 years ago.
In 1862 he was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Strasburg at Vlanders, Wis., who preceded him in death about 38 years ago. Eleven children were born to this union, seven having died before the father. Those living are; Mrs. Rose Simons, of Milwaukee, Mrs. Mike Firnstahl of Evanston, Mrs. Wm. M. Fisher of Chicago, Mrs. W. Herman of Curtiss, Ed of Abbotsford, Albert of Dorchester and Joe of Colby, Wis.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. Lachnit of Colby, with burial in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.
