Mock, Robert D. (17 AUG 1937 - 24 MAR 1942)

(Butler Correspondent)

Robert Dale Mock, four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mock of the Town of Butler, was accidently shot Tuesday afternoon, March 24, about 5:30 o’clock when he and several brothers were playing with their father’s .22 caliber rifle. The gun was not loaded, so it is surmised that the children found a cartridge and were experimenting with it. The boy was shot through the chin and passed away almost instantly.

Robert was the youngest of ten children and was born at Modena on Aug. 17, 1937. Surviving are his parents, three sisters, Laura, Mrs. Fred Lane of Wabasha, Minn.; Ilene, Mrs. Robert Dickinson of Eau Claire; and Betty at home, also six brothers, Alfred, Wayne, Dennis, William Kenneth and Murville, all at home. He also leaves two grandmothers, Mrs. William Mock and Mrs. Laura Briggs of Stanley.

The funeral was held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the Plombon Undertaking Parlors in Stanley and at 2:00 o’clock from the Methodist Church, Rev. C.R. Gaylord officiating. Interment was made in the Edson Cemetery.
