Sterr, Richard Jon (12 July 1936 - 10 July 1955)
Loyal - Richard Jon Sterr, only two days away from his 19th birthday, was killed instantly about 3 A.M. Sunday when he drove his motorcycle into the rear of a truck ¼ mile north of Loyal, Wisconsin on County Trunk K.
The youth, whose father, Elmer Sterr, has a canning factory at Loyal, was believed to be making an early morning check on the harvesting of peas and viner operations when he met death. The accident occurred at a driveway entrance to a viner station.
Several persons employed at the viners heard the crash and said the impact pushed the truck a considerable distance. Sterr’s head struck the right rear corner of the truck and his body tumbled to the ground beside the motorcycle.
A Loyal physician pronounced him dead from a broken neck and severe head injuries, and indicated that death was instantaneous.
Driver of the truck was Eugene Gloudemann of Loyal, Route 1, age 35. Authorities said they were told that the truck was properly lighted and was flashing a directional signal for a turn when the crash occurred.
