Zarnke, William (11 Feb. 1864 - 19 Sept. 1955)

William Zarnke, a former resident of Colby, Wisconsin, quietly passed away at the Havenet Nursing Home at Owen Monday morning at 7:00 A.M., at the age of 91 years. Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon, at 1:30 at the Lulloff Funeral Home, Rev. V. O. Grosshuesch officiating, and internment will be made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

Mr. Zarnke was born in Germany on February 11, 1864, and came to this country at the age of 17. He was employed at Brillion until 1889 when he moved onto a farm in the town of Hull and engaged in farming. He married Anna Witte on May 14, 1895. They operated the farm until 1941 when they retired and moved to the city of Colby, Wis. After the death of Mrs. Zarnke in October, 1942, Mr. Zarnke lived with his children until nine months ago when he made his home at the Havenet Nursing Home at Owen.

Surviving are 11 children - William Zarnke, Jr., of Stratford, Mrs. Bertha Farmer, Mrs. Harry (Olga) Green, Mrs. Andy (Lillian) Gumm, Mrs. Earl (Leona) Williams and Otto Zarnke of Milwaukee, Mrs. John (Helen) Murphy and Paul Zarnke of West Allis, Mrs. Lyle (Erma) Stubenrauch of Kirkland, Wash., Mrs. Robert (Ella) Unger of Madison and Mrs. Raymond (Arlene) Sambs of Greenwood. Also 25 grandchildren and 14 great grand children. Besides his wife, two children, Oscar and Hulda, preceded him in death.

Funeral services for William Zarnke were held last Thursday afternoon at the Lulloff Funeral Home, Rev. V. O. Grosshuesch officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were H. C. Klessig, Otto Brehm, Elroy Brehm, Armin Barts, Elmer Meinke and Harvey Barts.

Out-of-town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. William Zarnke, Jr., and Mrs. Clarence Zarnke of Stratford, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Birkett of Marathon City, Mr. and Mrs. Nat Zarnke, Mr. and Mrs. Art Zarnke, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Zarnke, Mrs. Rhena Tanck, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Flech of Wausau, Mrs. Bert Farmer, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Green, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Zarnke and family of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. John Murphy, Kenneth Murphy, Miss Lorraine Marine, Paul Zarnke of West Allis, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Unger of Madison, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sambs and family of Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bandes, Mrs. Ray Kriplean and Anna Lautenschlegar of Appleton, Mr. and Mrs. George Miller and Mrs. Lenard Arends of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Armin Barts of Abbotsford, Wis.
