Smudde, Nicholis (23 Feb. 1896 - 20 Oct. 1955)
Nicholis (Nick) Smudde of Eau Claire, a former resident of the town of Colby, Wisconsin died at midnight Thursday, Oct. 20, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Appleton, where he had been visiting relatives, at the age of 59 years. Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby, Wis., Rev. Vincent Schwartz officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were Wm. Zassenhaus, Amos Schaffer, Norbert Wolf, George Allar, Arnold Ohlinger and George Hanson.
Mr. Smudde was born in Kaukauna on February 23, 1896, and moved to Colby as a young man. He was married to the former Agatha Miller. Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. Jerome (Beatrice) Larson and Mrs. Shirley Heinzke, both of Eau Claire; two grand children, six brothers and five sisters, Robert of Colby, Francis of Lombard, Ill., Theodore of Terre Haute, Ill., Leo and Ben of Appleton, Al of Kaukauna, Sr. Azaria of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Henry Regen of Oneida, Mrs. Frank Jordan of Unity, Mrs. Harry Kesler of Marshfield and Mrs. Tom Brown of Waupaca.
