Young, Dorothy Marie (Marriage - 25 June 1949)
Miss Dorothy Marie Young, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Young, and Vernon G. Baumgartner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Baumgartner, were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Colby, Wis., Saturday, June 25, 1949, at 9:00 A.M., Rev. N. B. Beschta officiating. Miss Bernadine Kraus played the wedding march and the children’s choir sang "To Praise the Heart of Jesus" and "O Fairest of All Visions." Miss Kraus sang, Back-Gound’s "Ave Maria" and "Our Father" by Whittet.
Marjorie Young, sister of the bride, was maid of honor and Lucille Baumgart of Milwaukee, sister of the groom, and Lorna Baumgartner of Waukon, Iowa, cousin of the groom, were bridesmaids. The groom was attended by Donald Baumgartner, his brother, as best man, Ronall Nelsen and William Young, Jr., brother of the bride.
The bride was attired in a gown of white satin with tier of lace on sides buttoned up the back, long sleeves, train, fingertip veil, beaded tier. Her jewelry consisted of a gold locket and ear rings, gifts of the groom. Her bouquet consisted of white lilies and red roses. The maid of honor wore a dress of white taffeta, hoop skirt, double tiered drop-shoulders with net yokes and sweetheart bonnet with matching gauntlets. Miss Lucille Baumgartner and Miss Louisa Baumgartner wore similar gowns as the maid of honor but in orchid and light green, respectively. Bouquets of all three consisted of carnations and yellow roses. All three received rhinestone chokers and ear rings to match as a gift of the bride. The bride’s mother wore an aqua suit with corsage of white and pink carnations and the groom’s mother wore a yellow linen dress with corsage of pale pink and yellow carnations.
A wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride’s grand mother, Mrs. Louis Young.
A dinner and reception was given at St. Mary’s gymnasium in Colby and a reception was also given at the home of the bride’s parents. Home decorations consisted of white, orchid and green streamers and white bells. A wedding dance was held at Walter’s pavilion in the evening.
The couple left on a wedding trip to Northern Wisconsin and Iowa and will be at home after July 10th at Colby, Wis. The groom is employed at the Oakland Cheese Factory, Curtiss, Wis.
