Arrive From Germany; Tell of Hardships There
Mrs. Elsie Zurrow’s father and sister, Herman and Erna Sandinger, have just arrived here from Germany and are now staying at the home of Mrs. Zurrow. They left Essenberruhr, Germany, on Dec. 8 for Breiner harbor from where they left on Dec. 13 on the boat Ernie Pyle for New York and landed there on Dec. 26. They left New York on Dec. 27 for Chicago where they stayed one day with Mrs. Ruither. They left Chicago on Dec. 28 and landed in the Colby community on Dec. 29.
They said that in Germany the people cannot even imagine how much the people of this country have to eat and to wear. All the clothes and most of the food that they had in Germany was sent to them by relatives of this country. They said that they had not tasted meat in Germany since the war.
