Laack, Gilbert #2 (5 MAR 1906 - 15 OCT 1942)
Gilbert A. Laack, 36, of near Colby, was killed instantly Thursday evening at about 7 o’clock, when the car he was driving crashed into a concrete abutment on a bride, 2 ½ miles west of Abbotsford on Highway 29.
Laack’s car, being driven east at the time of the impact, was swung around toward the north and across the right half of the road, and then was struck broadside by another car driven by John Priebenow, field man of the Owen Canning Corp. of Loyal, who als was proceeding east.
Mr. Priebenow, suffering chest injuries, was taken to the Colby Clinic for medical attention, and both cars were brought to Abbotsford, Wis. Laack’s neck was broken and his jaw smashed.
L.J. Stahler of the Farm Security Office, Medford, driving west on Highway 29, stated that he saw the Priebenow car crash into the Laack car.
Traffic officer Ken Mathewson and Coroner H.L. Brown examined the scene of the accident, the latter stating that an inquest probably would be held after further investigation. Laack’s car was shoved 45 feet eastward across the bridge after being hit.
