Schmidt, Eugene J. #2 (8 APR 1942 - 29 JAN 2008)

Eugene J. Schmidt, 65, Spencer, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Jan, 29, 2008. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 4, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal. The Rev. Roman Kaiser officiated. Committal prayers were included in the ceremony. Burial will take place at a later time, in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield. Pallbearers were Matthew Schmidt, Korey Boyd, Glen Sternweis, Gary Zopfi and Keith Bauer. Honorary pallbearers were Ron Schmidt, Arnie Bauer, Frank Oldham and Andy Lindner.

Eugene Joseph Schmidt was born on the family farm in the town of York, on April 8, 1942, to Edward and Genevieve (nee Gaden) Schmidt. He attended loyal schools and then farmed with his family. He married Sheila Bauer, the love of his life, on Oct. 7, 1972, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield. They farmed in the town of York for 24 years, retiring in 1966 and moving to Spencer. He greatly enjoyed spending time at Ronnie and Gwen Schmidt’s farm. He also enjoyed his work on Saturday mornings at the Brighton Recycling Center. He loved spending tome with his family and friends. He loved woodworking, gardening, playing cards, campfires and helping others. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Spencer.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Sheila Schmidt, Spencer; his daughters, Mary (Lance) Schuette, Colby, Marcy (Steven) Cannon, Oshkosh, Penny Schmidt, Marshfield, Staff Sgt. Pam Schmidt, serving active duty in Afghanistan, April (Gavin Hoesly) Schmidt, Plover, and Angela Schmidt, Spencer; five loving grandchildren, Kyle and Amber Cannon, Oshkosh, and Elsa, Iva, and Olivia Schuette, Colby; one brother, Ron (Gwen) Schmidt, Spencer; two sisters, Dolores (Andy) Lindner, Muskego, and Charlotte (Frank) Oldham, Neillsville; one sister-in-law, June Schmidt, Loyal; one uncle, Ernest Gaden, Neillsville; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Edward and Genevieve Schmidt, and one brother, Robert Schmidt, in 1996.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who is dearly missed by his family and friends.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, assisted the family with arrangements.
