Hanson, Mary (11 FEB 1872 - 24 JUN 1941)

Miss Mary Hanson was born in the town of Sherman on Feb. 11, 1872 and died June 24, 1941 at her home in Spencer from heart trouble and other complications following an operation January 22, 1940. She moved to Spencer with her parents, Marvin D. and Sophia Farrington Hanson and taught school from 1889 to 1899, and was active in work of the Methodist Church over 50 years, being church organist. She was a member of the Marshfield Order of Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary in which she held a state office. She was known as a widely read and traveled woman.

She is survived by two brothers and their wives, Lee of Prentice and George of Spencer, 2 nieces and three nephews besides other relatives and a host of friends who will greatly miss her.

Funeral services were held Saturday June 28th at the Spencer Methodist Church with the Rev. Earle of Waupaca, Wisconsin Veterans Home assisting the local pastor. Floral offerings were many and beautiful. Burial was made in the Spencer cemetery with services by the Eastern Star.

Among those from away besides the immediate relatives were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Priest and family of Lomira, Mrs. Hattie Richardson and Mrs., Chas Byse of Neillsville, Miss Rispah Crowell of Waupaca, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Cowles, Mrs. F. M. Voight, Mrs. J. R. Steiner and Mrs. Attila Leatherdale of Loyal.
