Swanek, Stella Marie (10 June 1915 - 1 February 2008)
Stella M. Swanek, age 92, of Thorp, formerly of Lublin, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 1, 2008, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital, in Stanley.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 on Monday, February 4, 2008, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin. Fr. John Long officiated and burial followed in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Strom, Steve Strom, Doug Swanek, Ron Alger, Joshua Slagoski, and Ron Strom. Visitation was held at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
Stella Marie Siudak was born on June 10, 1915, Chicago, IL to Anton and Mary (Kusmider) Siudak. She was raised in Lublin and received her education at River Bank School. In 1930, Stella moved to Chicago and worked at Thompson’s Restaurant for two years. She then went to work at Chicago Rawhide Manufacturing and finally at Ludwig Drum Company. In 1949, Stella was united in marriage to William Swanek in Chicago. She had two children, Richard and Lorraine. After the death of her husband in 1968, she continued to work until 1975, at which time she moved back to her home in Lublin where she enjoyed being around family and friends. In 1991, Stella sold her home in Lublin and moved to the Morgan Plaza in Thorp for a short time. She then moved into Oakbrook Health & Rehab and resided there until her death.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, the Holy Rosary Society and the homemakers Club. Stella had many interests, including bowling, polka dancing, spending time with family and friends, and she loved listening to her son, Rich, play the concertina.
She will be sadly missed by her son, Richard (Barbara) Swanek of Bensenville, IL; eight grandchildren: Sandra Swanek of Appleton, Cindy (Ron) Alger of Thorp, Pam Swanek of Council Grove, KS, Tamera Hochmoth of Madison, Dough Swanek of Appleton, Michael Strom of Nashville, TN, Rick Swanek of Chicago, and Steve Strom of Charlotte, NC; 20 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters; Jane (John) Gajda of Lublin and Sophie (Joe) Pawlicki of Thorp; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; her daughter, Lorraine Strom; and three brothers: Joseph, Edward and Frank.
Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
