Hickethier, Truman J (8 April 1929 - 20 February 2008)
Truman J. Hickethier, 78, of Rochester, MN, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
He was born April 8, 1929, at Bloomer to William and Ella (Kressin) Hickethier. After graduating from Bloomer High School, he received a bachelor’s degree from Eau Claire University in Elementary Education. He served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956. On December 24, 1959, he married Marian L. Appleyard in Durand. He earned his master’s degree from Winona State University and accepted employment in Durand as an elementary teaching principal from 1957 to 1964. He then went on to teach grades five and six in Winona for 26 years. Truman was proud to be selected to teach a sixth-grade gifted program for seven years. He especially enjoyed his time teaching a summer outdoor education class.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jack (Lisa Lang) of Burlingame, CA, and Barry of Minneapolis, MN; and three grandchildren, Dylan and Sara of Burlingame and Todd of Woodbury, MN.
His parents, a brother Harold and a sister Lucille preceded him in death.
A memorial service for Truman J. Hickethier will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Samaritan’s Purse.
Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
