Reis, Joseph (4 Dec. 1871 - 21 Mar. 1951)

Joseph Reis of Abbotsford, Wisconsin, age 79, died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Calmes, last week Wednesday. Funeral services were held Saturday in St. Bernard’s Catholic church, Rev. Raymond Schultz officiating, and internment was made at St. John’s Catholic cemetery at Wuertzburg. Due to Holy Week, the requiem high mass was not read until Wednesday. Pall bearers were John Kremstreiter, William Bendel, Joe Calmes, Peter Rosener, Sylvester Ellenbecker and Lawrence Symolke.

Mr. Reis was born December 4, 1871, in Whitelaw, Manitowoc county where he received his education. He married Julia Kochan at Reefs Mills on October 27, 1894. After their marriage, they moved to the town of Johnson, Marathon county, where they cleared the land and built a fine 80-acre farm. In 1926, they sold the farm, retired and built a small home near by. They moved to Abbotsford last June.

He held the office of town chairman of the town of Johnson for eight years, was a trustee in the Catholic church at Wuertzburg for 13 years and president of the Athens Co-operative for 23 years, also was a member of the Holy Name Society of the church.

Surviving are his wife; two children, Mrs. Calmes of Abbotsford and Ervin A. Reis of Bakerville; a brother, Albert, and a half-sister, Mrs. Sophia Strerlo of Antigo. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
