Hulda Schuette #3 (18 Feb. 1895 - 30 July 1951)

Mrs. Hulda Schuette, age 56, of Unity, route 1, died at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital Monday night of injuries suffered in a head-on auto collision near Loyal late Monday afternoon. Her husband, Hugo, age 56, her son, Merlin, age 26, and Mrs. Eugene (Marilyn) Gloudeman, age 23, driver of the other car involved, are receiving treatment in the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital for severe injuries suffered in the same crash. The Schuettes and Mrs. Gloudeman were returning to their farm homes.

Mrs. Schuette’s injuries consisted of head injuries and fractures of both legs. She died shortly after being admitted to the hospital.

Mr. Schuette is suffering from head injuries, a fractured left hip, chest injuries and facial lacerations. His son has a skull fracture, a broken jaw, lacerations and contusions.

Mrs. Gloudeman of Loyal, route 1, formerly of Colby, has a broken jaw and a number of lacerations.

Doctors said, however, that the condition of the three injured persons is "satisfactory."

The vehicles apparently met head-on on County Trunk K, six miles north of Loyal. There were no witnesses to the crash other than the occupants of the two cars.

Merlin Schuette had been driving one car and Mrs. Gloudeman was the only occupant of the other car and was driving south on K. Both autos were demolished by the collision.

Coroner John Bergeman said Tuesday that it had not yet been decided whether an inquest would be held.

Funeral services for Mrs. Schuette will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in St. Luke’s Lutheran church in South Green Grove, Rev. Paul Dietz officiating, and internment will be made in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Schuette, nee Hulda Ihlenfeldt, was born on February 18, 1895, in Luxemburg, town of Montpelier. On April 14, 1920, she was married to Hugo Schuette at Luxemburg. Since their marriage, they lived on their farm west of Unity.

Survivors in addition to her husband and son are three daughters and another son - Mrs. Paul (Evelyn) Schlinsog of Granton, Mrs. Calvin (Arlene) Schultz, Miss Ethel Schuette and Orville Schuette of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Also surviving are five grand children, a sister, Mrs. Henry Dahlke of Boyd, and a brother, Henry Ihlenfeldt of Luxemburg.
