A Greenwood native, Bruce Felix, has joined the staff of the
Tribune-Record-Gleaner. His duties will be Advertising Coordinator.
Publisher Bob Berglund stated the addition of Mr. Felix will benefit advertisers
as well as the newspaper, with emphasis being put on the development of
advertising budgets tailored to individual businesses. Mr. Felix will also join
with other TRG staff members in publishing several special supplements
throughout the year.
A 1969 graduate of the Greenwood High School, Mr. Felix attended college at
Concordia, Morehead, Minnesota, University of Wisconsin, Marshfield, and the
University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. His major was communications.
He has nearly seven years of retail sales experience with the JC Penney Company
and the Photo Shop in Marshfield. His hobby is photography.
Mr. Felix is married to the former Sandra Thiel of Greenwood. The couple resides
in Pineview Terrace at Greenwood, and have one daughter.
With the addition of Mr. Felix as Advertising Coordinator, publisher Berglund
announced Paul Pawlowski will be assigned News/Sports duties for the entire TRG
coverage area. He had previously served as reporter and advertising salesman for
the Spencer area, and since October had handled sports reporting duties as well.

Bruce – Wins Speaking Contest (Jan 1979)

Bruce LaBarge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray LaBarge, Loyal High School senior, won
first place when he represented Loyal American Legion Post 175 and Clark County
in the Seventh District American Legion Oratorical contest on Sunday at La
Crosse. He will compete in the regional speaking contest to be held at La Crosse
on February 4, 1979. Winners from the 7th, 8th and 9th districts will be
speaking.

New owners at the Loyal Steak House are Ken and Colleen Fitzl. Before buying the
business from Richard and Kathee Fitz, they operated a farm in the Town of
Beaver. Colleen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Ackerman, former
Greenwood residents, and had been employed by the Farmers & Merchants Bank.

Delores Justman, Unity was selected as “Farm Wife of the Year” in 1978. In
February another “Farm Wife of the Year” will be selected from applications now

Therese Hoeser, Route 2, Loyal, was among the 49 from the University of
Wisconsin, La Crosse named to Who’s Who Among Students in American University
and Colleges. All upperclassmen and graduate students are eligible for the
honor; final selection is based on grade point average, participation in campus
activities, and involvement in outside activities and work experiences.
Nominees for Who’s Who are chosen each fall by a campus selection committee made
up of three members appointed by the Faculty Senate and two appointed by the
Dean of Student Affairs. This procedure of local nomination serves to highlight
the individual and diverse talents of America’s most prominent students.

Holzschuh, John G. (21 Aug 1888 – 9 Jan 1979)
John G. Holzschuh, age 90, of 109 S. LaSalle Street, Spencer, Wisconsin, died at
his home on Tuesday, January 9, 1979 at 11:15 a.m. Funeral services were held at
the Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer, on Friday, January 12, 1979 at 2:00 p.m.,
with the Rev. William H. Ruhbusch officiating. Burial was in the West Spencer
Cemetery.
Rux Funeral Home, Spencer, was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Holzschuh was born August 21, 1888 at Sherwood, Wisconsin. He received his
education in Sherwood. He married Elsie M. Frederich on April 24, 1916 in
Marshfield.
He began making cheese with his father, then they had a cheese factory in
Asketon. He moved to Spencer in 1912 and operated Spencer Cheese Facotry until
selling it in 1947. He lived at his present home for 67 years.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Surviving him are his wife, Elsie, and one half-sister, Agnes Shepley, Redwood
City, California.
His parents, one sister, four half-brothers and two half-sisters preceded him in
death.
Pallbearers were Walter Stapel, Walter Luepke, Norman Kommer, Carl Graupner,
Olaf Manthe, and Martin Below. The organist was Mrs. Arnold Stelzl, and there
was congregational singing.

Placement on the Dean’s List for scholastic achievement was earned by 29
students at UW Center, Marshfield-Wood County, this fall, half of them from
Marshfield.
Three students from Granton made the list. They are Colleen Berger, Donna Dachel
and Loren Meddaugh.
To earn placement on the Dean’s List, students must attain a grade point average
between 3.5 and 4.0 based on a four-point scale.

Marilyn J. Branstiter, 39, 509 Main Street, Greenwood, died around 7:30 a.m.
Wednesday, January 17, 1979 at Memorial Hospital, Neillsville. Funeral services
were held on January 19, 1979 at 11 a.m. at Missionary Baptist Church,
Greenwood, with the Rev. W. J. Copham officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill
Cemetery at Howarden, Iowa. Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood, was in charge of
arrangements.
Marilyn J. Cain was born October 23, 1939 to Mr. and Mrs. Fountain Cain at
Howarden, Iowa. She received her education in the Howarden grade and high
school, graduating in 1958. She married Don Branstiter on June 1, 1958 in
Howarden, Iowa. They moved to Greenwood in 1966 and she worked with her husband
in the self-serve gas station and implement business as a bookkeeper.
She was a member of the Missionary Baptis Church, Greenwood.
Survivors are her husband, don, two sons, Scott, Stratford and Marty, at home;
two daughters, Pam Sheboygan, Connie, at home; one brother, Richard Cain, Sioux
City, Iowa; two sisters, Karen DeVries, Sioux City, Iowa, Mrs. Christie
Anderson, Minnesota, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fountain Cain, Howarden,
Iowa.
Pallbearers were Raymond Djubenski, Nyle Brandt, Dave Keenan, Kenneth Pfeiffer,
Gary Branstiter and Bob Branstiter. The organist was Miss Judy Tetzner, and the
singers were Mr. and Mrs. Gary Schultz.
