Herman Schwantes had his right leg broken in a peculiar manner, Tuesday afternoon while working at the mill. Herman was on the carriage and was helping to turn a log on the head blocks. He had caught the log with his cant hook and was pulling, with his whole weight, to turn the log toward the head blocks, when the cant hook stock broke short off. The sudden release of the hold on the log let him go over with force enough to break one of the bones of the right leg just above the ankle joint. Dr. Freeman reduced the fracture, but it will be some weeks before Herman will be able to be out.
