Braun, George (1903)
Herald - Wausau, Wis.--George Braun, a farmer of the town of Frankfort, is in the clutches of the law and District Attorney Genrich promises to give him a trip to Waupun. In October, 1899, Braun was charged with committing rape upon the person of a neighbor’s daughter, Helen Hartig, 15 years of age and an invalid weighing but 45 lbs. He was taken before Justice Pradt at Colby and had his bail bond fixed at $500, which he forfeited and left the state.
The little girl died two years ago and last Sunday, Braun, whose wife and children remained on his farm, returned home. The dead girl’s father at once notified the authorities and Constable John Duerstein, of Marathon City, arrested Braun the same day.
The preliminary examination will be held at Wausau, Wisconsin before Justice J. A. Jones, next Wednesday.
