Anderson, Nels J. (26 MAY 1860 - 11 DEC 1941)

Nels J. Anderson, a former Owen business man, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 11, at his home in Antigo. He had been ailing in health for some time and became seriously ill about a month previous to his passing away. He was taken to the Wisconsin General hospital, Madison, where he was treated but it was found he was beyond help, so was taken home.

Mr. Anderson was born in Jetsmark, Denmark, Europe, May 26, 1860, and came to this country at age of 22, settling in Fairchild, where he was in partnership with his brother, Julius. They were in business there until the big Fairchild fire in 1895, when they dissolved partnership. Nels remained at the old stand until he moved to Osseo in February, 1903, where he lived for two years, returning to Fairchild, where he spent the next seven years before moving to Owen where he built a blacksmith shop and worked for 22 years. Mr. Anderson sold his place in 1934 and moved to Antigo where he lived until his death.

He is survived by his wife, the former Anne E. Wagner, whom he met and married in Fairchild, May 26, 1893; and three sons, Christ J. of Chicago, Arthur C. of Duluth, and Roy E. of Elcho; also two daughters in law and three grandsons, children of Arthur C. Anderson. One brother, M. Julius of Tyler, Minn., and two sisters, Mrs. Stine Hansen of Montpelier, Idaho, and Mrs. John Wagner of Boise, Idaho.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 14, with a prayer at the home by Rev. George C. Alborn of the Baptist church and the services held in the Methodist church in Fairchild conducted by Rev. Cooper. Interment was made in the family lot at Fairchild by the side of his children, George Walter and Grace Ida, the latter having died on the same date as her father, 39 years ago.

Among those from away who attended services and paid respects to the family were M. J. Anderson and daughter, Mrs. F. S. Wells of Tyler, Minn.; C. J. Peterson of Chicago; Mrs. Anna Anderson and son, Arnold and wife, C. A. Christenson, Oscar Hanson, Henry Wagner, Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Larion, Mrs. John Moe, all of Price; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ryan, Mel Mors, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wagner, Mrs. L. Kay and son, Herbert, of Osseo; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Lund, Mrs. H. Hanson, Mrs. E. Westergaard and son, Nordal, of Levis; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hagen and Mrs. Olaf Hagen of LaFarge; Paul Kay, Charles Kay of Fargo, N. D.; Mr. and Mrs. P. Anderson, Mrs. Gust Rahl and son of Augusta; and many other friends.

The floral tributes were many and beautiful showing the respect and love of his many friends.

Note: It is my guess the Fairchild photos were taken between when he returns from Osseo and when he goes to Owen.  Steve Roberts
