Albert Tuttle (13 Oct 1815, Preston, New London, CT - 6 Feb 1891, Arcadia, Trempealeau, WI)

ALBERT Tuttle, Justice of the Peace, Merrillan, Wisconsin. Was born in (Preston, New London Co.,) Connecticut, Oct. 13, 1815. In 1850, came West and settled at Black River Falls, Jackson Co., in company with James Buchanan, as a clerk, with a stock of general merchandise; started a store at the Falls, where he remained for two years; went to La Crosse, stayed there one year; returned to Black River Falls, where he was married to Mrs. Emeline Goff; she was born in Ohio, in 1822. Mr. Tuttle made his home at the Falls, working in the pineries in Winter, scaling logs, etc., until 1879 moved to Merrillan; held the office of Justice of Peace for two years at Black River Falls, and was elected to that office at Merrillan in the Spring of 1880. His wife died in January, 1881, by whom he had two children, Katie I. and Albert L.

Family Notes

Albert Tuttle was born 13 Oct 1815 in Preston, New London Co., Connecticut, the son of Joseph and Mary "Polly" (Rose) Tuttle.  Joseph was born 22 Oct 1784 in Montville, New London Co., Connecticut, a son of Palatiah and Betsey (Swaddle) Tuttle.  Polly died in 1870 and Joseph died in 1871. 

Emeline L. (Goff) Tuttle died 22 Jan 1881 at the age of 58 yr, 10 mo, 11 days.  She was the daughter of Eugene K. Goff (26 Feb 1823 - 22 May 1851, 28 yr., 10 mo., 11 dy) and Emmaline (Jean) Goff (1824 - ?).  The Goffs were married 21 Nov 1844 in Muscatine Co., Iowa and E. K. is buried in the Riverside Cemetery, Black River Falls, Wisconsin in the same plot of ground as Albert Tuttle (1815 - 1891) who died in Arcadia, Trempealeau, Wisconsin.

Eugene K. Goff was the son of Potter Goff (26 Mar 1779, Coventry, Kent Co., RI) and Rhoba Nichols.  Capt. Potter Goff is buried in the Gray Hill Cemetery (near Caledonia and Mt. Zion) Jay, Elk Co., Pennsylvania.  There are less than 25 gravestones in the cemetery, most made of native rock and difficult to read.
