Neillsville (Two New Stores Opening - November 1968)
Grand Openings for Two Stores
Two newly-remodeled and modernized stores,
in new locations, will hold grand openings here this weekend. They are Opelt’s
Skogmo store and the Neillsville Maytag Company.
The Skogmo store is
located in the building at the corner of Hewett and West Fourth (Fifth) Streets,
formerly occupied by McCain’s. This is the location, incidentally, in which
Jerry Opelt of the Skogmo store gained his early experience in soft goods
merchandising while with the J. C. Penney Company.
The store has been
completely renovated and new lines and departments have been added.
The
Maytag store, owned by Donald Schiesel, recently moved into the building across
from the post office and just north of the Neillsville Theatre. This store, too,
underwent considerable renovation.
The location from which the Skogmo
store moved will be opened shortly by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marvin as a
restaurant. The old Maytag store building will be razed to make room for an
enlarged off-street parking facility for the downtown of Neillsville.
