Last Saturday Sheriff Harry Hewett, assisted by eight men from Neillsville,
deputized for that purpose, drove to Loyal and simultaneously raided six blind
pigs at that place. It had been known for some time that since Loyal voted dry
last spring, those who formerly conducted saloons there were still dishing out
the real stuff under the disguise of soft drinks, such as ginger ale and near
beer. Much booze was confiscated and hauled to Neillsville, where, after the
trial, it was promptly destroyed. Those who were arrested are: Jos. Wedl, Wm.
Wichman, John Bauer, John Bennick, Voigt Bros. and Eugene Barth.
All
appeared before Court Commissioner R.F. Kountz Monday, when it was decided to
give them a hearing two weeks later. Dec. 10th is the date set.
