Patrick Bernard Davel was born on Feb. 17, 1952, in Loyal, to Bernard and Katherine (nee DeYoung) Davel. He was raised and received his education in Loyal, graduating from Loyal High School in 1970. After high school Pat moved to Marshfield and worked at Figi’s for17 years supervising the Shipping Department. He then moved to Wausau where he met his best friend and partner for life, Rob. While in Wausau, Pat worked for Eastbay for 13 years until his illness (a brain tumor) in 2006. Pat enjoyed many trips, visiting 49 ststes and meeting many country and western stars including one of his favorites, Jeannie C. Riley. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, and a whiz at puzzles, trivia, board games and game shows. One of his favorite game shows was “Wheel of Fortune!” Pat was also historian of the family and updated the family board with birthdays and addresses. He enjoyed family get-togethers, where the challenge of his games and the giving of his gifts will be forever embedded in the hearts of his siblings, nieces, nephews and friends. Pat’s illness for the past six years had taken some of his abilities, but never his love for life. With the care of his partner, Rob, he continued to enjoy puzzles, and going to family outings and concerts.

Pat is survived by his partner, Rob Grueneberg, Wausau, his brothers, Dan Davel, Loyal and Tom Davel, Nekoosa. His sisters, Mary Ann Werhman, Owen, Sally Bauer, Wisconsin Rapids, Marcy Peters, Nekoosa, and Jackie Wardesky, Milwaukee; his sister-in-law, Nancy Brown, Loyal; his partner’s father-in-law, Freddy Greuneberg; his partner’s siblings, Randy Grueneberg, Sherri Baker, Gayle Nowak, Angel and Dan Rhyner; Tim Hildebrand and friend JoAnn, all of Wausau; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends whom he had for a lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Katherine Davel; his brothers; Jerry Davel, Kenney Davel, and Tim Davel; his brothers-in-law, Gene Wardesky, Sylvester Bauer, Richard Hoeck and Al Werhman; his partner’s mother, Gloria Hidebrandt; and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Baker.

Thank you to Dr. Lawler and his assistant Tammy for all of their care during Pat’s surgery for the past six years. Thanks to the Intensive Care and Palliative Care units at Wausau Aspirus Hospital for their care.

We will miss our beloved Pat, who liked everyone whom he met and never said a bad word of anyone. We love you, Patches!
