Joseph Oscar Jensen was born May 16,
1866 at Cazenovia, Wis. When he was a year old, his
parents moved to this
community, where his father, Andrew F. F. Jensen operated the first
general
store in Dorchester. He spent the early years of his adult life working in
logging camps of the area.
Later he farmed in the town of Mayville, on
land which he homesteaded. He and Lena
Strassburger were married in 1896 (17
Nov 1895, Athens, WI Marriages Pre-1907 v 2; p
400), and to them were born
eight children, of whom seven survive. Mrs. Jensen died in (4
Jan) 1932. The
Jensen homestead is now occupied by the Howard Neuenfeldt family. He
operated the farm until selling it to his son Arthur about 20 years ago, and
since then
had lived in retirement with his son.
Surviving are five
sons: Arthur (Margaret Ulrich) of this community, Sylvester (Esther
Copeland) of Glidden, Karl (Jim) (Genevieve Pickarski) of Athens, Lee (Anna
Patitz) of
Owen, and Warren (Viola Glaser) of Beloit; two daughters: Mrs.
Ralph (Amanda Jensen
Draves) Blumer of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Marion (Rhoda
Jensen Harter Tousey) Brock of Silver
Bell Mine, Ariz.; 26 grandchildren and
39 great-grand-children. Three brothers and a
sister also survive: Andrew
and Fred Jensen of Janesville, Walter Jensen of town of
Mayville, and Mrs.
Charles (Hattie Jensen) Weston of Reedsburg.
One child, six brothers and
four sisters, preceded him in death.
Coming from away for the funeral
were Daniel (Lois Sharer) Jensen, Superior; Mr.
(obituary clipped off at
this point).
