Kenney, Martha (1 NOV 1878 - 12 DEC 1943)
Death claimed Mrs. Wm. Kenney at her home in the village (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.) Sunday, Dec. 12, 1943, the cause of her passing being attributed to a stroke which she suffered on Dec. 6th.
Martha Beckman was born on Nov. 1, 1878 at Kiel, Wis., where she grew to womanhood. In 1895 she was united in marriage to Everette Mooen of Stanley, Wis., who passed away five years later. She was married to Wm. Kenney of the Town of Worden in 1902 and moved to the village with her husband and family in 1919, this community being her residence until death. Mr. Kenney died in April 1942.
The deceased was the mother of a large family. She ran the journey of life in 65 years. It is a path marked with deeds of kindness and cheer. Flowers, not thorns; sunshine, not shadow, did she scatter everywhere. Truth was the inspiration of her life and by kindness she exemplified its great worth.
She leaves to mourn, ten children, four sons, Raymond, a Marine in the Southwest Pacific; John Address unknown; Jim, in the U.S. Naval Reserved and Arthur of Thorp; six daughters, (Lila) Mrs. Elmer Schaeffer of Armstrong, Iowa; (Florence) Mrs. Clarence Poppe of Eau Claire; Margaret of Eau Claire; (Alice) Mrs. Wm. Ghionzoli; (Lorraine) Mrs. E.W. Radcliff of Chicago; and (Grace) Mrs. Alfred Baldeschwiler of Thorp; two brothers, Otto Beckman of Thorp and George Beckman of Eau Claire; three sisters, Mrs. Harry Baehr of Withee, Mrs. Laura Nelson and Mrs. Ida Baumgarten of Thorp.
Funeral services, attended by a large concourse of friends and relatives, were conducted from the Thorp Funeral Home to St. Hedwig’s Church at ten o’clock Wednesday morning, Rev. Francis Piekarski officiating, and interment following in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Thorp. Pallbearers were Anton Baldeschwiler, Louis Henke, Frank H. Schmidt, George Haas, Frank Smidtke and Fred Schmidt.
