Anderson, Benjamin (15 DEC 1862 - 27 FEB 1942)
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Griebenow Funeral Home (Owen, Wisconsin) for Benjamin Anderson, 80, who died Friday evening at 7:00 o’clock at his home in Withee. Death resulted from a heart ailment.
The Rev. Wesley Hotchkiss of the Congregational church had charge of the services and burial was made in Riverside cemetery. Roy, Bernard, Harold, Anton and Gordon Anderson and Martin Paulson, grandsons, served as pallbearers.
Mr. Anderson was born in Christiana, Norway, Dec. 15, 1862, and came to the United States at the age of 19. He was married the same year to Irene Evenson at Rockland, where the Andersons made their home for a time later moving to Stanley and then to Withee.
Surviving besides his wife are 10 children, Mrs. Alice Engelhart, Milwaukee; Mrs. Ruth Andrews, Ashland; Milton, Chippewa Falls; Mrs. Soren (Hilda) Peterson, Edward, Ole, Alfred and Elmer Anderson, Mrs. Bertha Auberg and Mrs. Hans (Julia) Hansen, all of Withee; a brother and a sister both living at Strum, 39 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A son, Roy, died 35 years ago.
Among those from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Evenson, Sparta; Mr. and Mrs. Grant, West Salem; Mr. and Mrs. Ole Olson and Mr. and Mrs. Manning, Jump River; and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Henrickson, Stanley.
