Klink, Margaret "Margie" Helen (14 January 1919 - 12 March 2008)
Margaret "Margie" Helen Klink passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at the age of 89. Margie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Erwin John "Bud" Klink; parents, Dr. and Mrs. Francis P. Neis of Thorp, WI; and brother, Philip Neis of Albuquerque.
She is survived by her children: John Klink and wife, Josefina, of Guadalajara, Mexico, Erv "Erwin Jr." Klink and fiancé, Bonnie Gomez, of Albuquerque, Anny Young and fiancé, John Boles, of San Jose, CA, Betty Corazzi and husband, Joe, of Albuquerque, Fay Calle and husband, Ruben, of Santa Clara, CA and Mike Klink and fiancé, Traci Taylor, of Kemp, TX; 14 grand children; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Francis Neis of Marshfield, WI; sister-in-law, Virginia Paulson of New Berlin, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Margie was born in Mayville, WI on January 14, 1919. As a young child she relocated with her parents to Thorp, WI where her father established his medical practice. Prior to graduating as salutatorian from St. Bernard’s Catholic School, she was known to be a gifted musician. At the age of 12, she became St. Bernard’s youngest organist, playing the sanctuary’s pipe organ for all church functions and frequently performing solos for the congr4egation with her marvelous soprano voice. Margie continued her education, graduating with honors in 1941 from Mount Mary College (Milwaukee) with a degree in Music and English.
While attending college, she met Bud Klink, an electrical engineering student at Marquette University. After receiving his degree, Bud became a naval officer shortly before WWII. Though Marge and Bud were separated for most of his 58 months at sea, they did marry in Long Beach, CA on January 30, 1943.
After graduation, Margie taught school in rural Wisconsin towns. She taught all subjects; however, being particularly gifted with music and English, the State of Wisconsin granted her the uncommon "Unlimited Life Teaching Credential" allowing her to maintain her teaching accreditation for life. Throughout the remainder of Margie’s life, she instilled the importance of education to her children. With her influence, they went on to earn more than a dozen degrees and professional designations. Shortly after the war, her husband (Lieutenant Commander Klink) was medically retired as a result of battle injuries. Following partial recuperation in Milwaukee, the couple moved to Albuquerque for the dryer climate more compatible with her husband’s injuries. Bud began a successful engineering and business career as Margie made a wonderful home for her family. The Klinks built and moved into their new home in 1948 - the same home in which she raised her six children and passed away peacefully surrounded by a loving family. In this home, for sixty years, Margie continued to entertain friends and family with her exceptional concert pianist talent and beautiful voice.
Margaret devoted much of her life to prayer, church and school activities. She and her husband were Founding Members and Sponsors of The Heights Catholic School (formerly serving St. Charles and Our Lady of Fatima Parishes); Holy Ghost Parish and School; and St. Pius X High School. While health permitted, for decades Margie was an active member of the Altar-Rosary Society of Holy Ghost Parish. She was a life-long supporter of Mount Mary College and in 1991, was inducted into a special group of alumnae who are members of The Marian Club.
After the death of her mother in 1956, Margaret dedicated herself to prayer saying a novena and rosary daily - a ritual that continued until her passing. Services for the devoted wife, mother, grandmother, musician, mentor and friend, began with a rosary recited on Tuesday, March 18, 2008, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - University Blvd. Chapel. Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, 2:00 p.m. at Holy Ghost Church. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd, NE.
Pallbearers were Margaret’s grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Ghost School, 833 Arizona SE Albuquerque NM 87108-4823
