Loretta R. Franz
Loretta Rose (Wachsmuth) Franz, 81, of Greenwood passed away Monday , March 31, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville where she had resided the past three months.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the home of Charles & Phyllis Meinhardt, 225 N Hendren Ave., Greenwood, WI. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Withee, WI.
Cremation Society of Eau Claire is assisting the family with arrangements.
Loretta was born November 15, 1926, in Owen to Emil and Kathrine (Samson) Wachsmuth. The family moved to Gilman, WI where she attended Hannibal and Donald schools. After school she worked in Waukegan at the Great Lakes Navel Base.
On October 12, 1946, Loretta married Leondo Franz at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Greenwood, WI. Leondo died on March 1, 2003.
Loretta worked on family farms until 1954 and then for various families in the Greenwood area, Great Lakes Woolen Co, Loyal Canning Factory and Weyerhauser. After becoming a CNA she worked in Gilman, Vesper, Port Edwards nursing homes and did in-home care.
Survivors include her children Patricia (William) Schubring, West Allis, Phyllis (Charles) Meinhardt, Greenwood, Jerome (Lisa) Franz, Winthrop Harbor, IL, Jane Franz, Randy (Debra) Franz, Richard (Debbie) Franz, and Rhonda (Ken) Bush all of Wisconsin Rapids; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, her brothers Alfred (Betty) Wachsmuth, Sheldon, WI, Arnold Wachsmuth, Schurz, NV and Leo (Gladys) Wachsmuth, Sun City, AZ, her sister Dorothy (Ray) Cornell of Gilman and sister-in-laws Helen (James) Wachsmuth, Gilman and Delores (Everett) Wachsmuth, Hinckley, MN and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters Alvira Stumpner, Elda Wald, Ella Mitchell and Marion Gwiazda and brothers Harold, Ralph, Earl, James, Everett, and infancy deaths of Ebner and Lee.
