Holmes, Alice Myrtle (9 July 1873 - 26 Dec. 1951)
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Unity Methodist Church for Mrs. Henry Holmes, 78, a resident of Unity most of her life, who passed away at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at the home of her son, the Rev. Lee Holmes, at Loyal, where she had been making her home the past two months.
The Rev. Fred J. Smith officiated at the funeral and burial was made in the Brighton cemetery.
Mrs. Dorothy Fuller and Mrs. Mildred Domer sang "Near To The Heart of God" and "Beyond The Sunset" accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Gladys Loughead.
Pallbearers were Sewell Cook, B. W. Mabbot, Clifford Binning, Ray Binning, Eugene Blair and DuWayne Meacham.
Mrs. Marlea Cook and Mrs. Vera Mabbot had charge of the floral offerings.
Mrs. Holmes, nee Alice Myrtle Pond, was born July 9, 1873, in Minnesota. She received her education in Unity and at the Normal School in Oshkosh. She spent most of her life in Clark County where she taught school for several years.
Her marriage to Henry Holmes took place in 1897 in Unity. In 1903 they moved on a farm near Unity, residing there until the death of Mr. Holmes in 1938. Since that time she lived in Unity and Loyal.
Mrs. Holmes was a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Chaplain Peter Holmes, San Pedro, Calif.; and the Rev. Lee Holmes, Loyal; three daughters, Mrs. Herman (Eunice) Blair, and Mrs. Harvey (Myrtle) Meacham, Colby, and Mrs. Roscoe (Alice) Meacham, Spencer; 11 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Four children and two brothers also preceded her in death.
Out of town people attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. James Holmes and son, James and Mrs. Fred Bailey and daughter, Olga of Rib Lake, Mrs. Iris Berchem, Boyd; Mrs. Rosa Holmes, Chippewa; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Lydickson, Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Lydickson, Riplinger; Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Holmes, Evanston, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Orville Nystead, Iowa City, Iowa.
