Johnson, Eric J. (20 Jan. 1869 - 25 Oct. 1952)
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3:30 at Trinity Lutheran Church for Eric J. Johnson, 83, who died at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Friday at 6 A.M. of old age complications. Rev. Vander Stoep officiated and burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Arthur Edblom, Otto Atcherson, Geo. Miller, Wm. Miller, Herman Molle and Elmer Carlson.
Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Roy Justman, Mrs. Al Justman, Mrs. Otto Atcherson, Mrs. Herman Molle, Mrs. John Johnson and Mrs. Elmer Carlson.
The choir sang "Oh Safe in the Rock that is Higher Than I" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" accompanied by Mrs. Gust Carlson on the piano.
Mr. Johnson was born Jan. 20, 1869, in Melrud, Sweden. He came to this country when he was 17 and settled in Minnesota.
Three years later he moved to Phillips where he married Miss Bertha Wieland on Feb. 17, 1893. They settled on a farm west of Unity and remained there until 1944 when they moved to the village. For the past three years they lived with their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Edblom.
Mr. Johnson served in the Trinity Lutheran Church and village boards.
Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Alma) Edblom, Unity; Mrs. Carl (Esther) Johnson, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Beda Henry, Minneapolis; and Mrs. Victor (Mildred) Dallman, Colby, and two sons, Milton, Detroit; and Leonard, Owen.
Other survivors include two brothers, Carl O. Johnson, of Stetsonville and Gust Johnson, New York; one sister in Sweden; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. One brother and one sister preceded her in death.
Out of town relatives and friends here for the funeral were Mrs. Beda Henry, Mrs. Monte Beeson Jr. and children, and Mrs. John Dorek, Minneapolis; Milton Johnson, Mrs. Jerry Collins and daughter, Detroit, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Johnson, Stetsonville; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Olson, Thorp; Gerry Wellman, Fred Dallman, Mrs. Roy Hoffman, Fond du Lac; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Johnson and daughter, Owen; Mr. and Mrs. Victor Dallman and daughter, Colby; William Wellman, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lulloff, Dodgeville; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Korth, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Oelrich and Mrs. Lizzie Cramer, Spencer.
