Cook, Mary E. (15 Nov. 1862 - 15 Feb. 1944)

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Cook of Neillsville were held Tuesday afternoon, February 15, at the Jaster Funeral home. The Rev. George W. Longenecker, pastor of the Congregational church, and burial took place in the Neillsville cemetery. She was 81 years of age, and had been a resident of Clark County 74 years.

The deceased, whose maiden name was Mary E. Davis, was born at Concord, N. H., on November 15, 1862. Her parents died when she was a small child, and her three sisters and two brothers all preceded her in death. When she was seven years of age, she came west with her foster parents, Dr. and Mrs. Alderman, settling in Humbird, where she grew to womanhood, and where she received her education.

She was married to John H. Cook at Fairchild, Wis., January 1, 1880. They lived in Humbird a few years, and then moved to Neillsville, where she has since resided. Mr. Cook passed away about twenty years ago. Four years ago her daughter, Mrs. F. Kramer, came to live with her, and has cared for her mother during her last illness. Mrs. Cook has been in failing health for several years, an almost constant sufferer the past two years. She passed away at her home on West Street Saturday evening, February 12.

Mrs. Cook was a member of the Rebekah lodge, and was the oldest member of the Women’s Relief Corps. In each she was faithful workers as long as her health permitted.

She leaves two children, Maude, Mrs. F. W. Kramer, Neillsville, and Chester Cook, Chicago, Ill. A son and a daughter preceded her in death. One granddaughter and 9 great-grandchildren reside in the state of Washington.

Pallbearers were William White, Charles Poole, Wheeler Forma, J. L. Neverman, Fred Bullard and H. L. Albright.
