Brahney, Bernard F. (4 Aug. 1892 - 3 Jan. 1954)
Bernard F. Brahney, president of Northern States Power Co. (Minnesota) passed away Sunday, January 3. Funeral services were held Tuesday.
Mr. Brahney began his long career as a ledger clerk at the age of 18 with a predecessor of NSP. His only higher education was in the hard school of experience. He taught himself to be an accountant, he studied financing and learned the ins and outs of the utility business. His career, which spanned 43 years of utility development, was a steady succession of increased responsibilities culminating with his election as president of NSP in 1947.
Mr. Brahney’s firm faith in the future of this area was evident in the bold program of building for the future which NSP launched in the post war years. Under his administration, the company made the most rapid progress in its history.
Mr. Brahney drew national attention to this area with a policy of close team work with the cooperatives, all of which now receive all or part of their power from NSP.
He was born August 4, 1892. Members of his family include a son, two brothers and two sisters.
