Veteran Honored With Quilt of Valor



April 30, the Greenwood American Legion Auxiliary Post #238 Quilt of Valor Group presented a quilt to Louis Landini (middle). The Quilt of Valor mission is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with “comforting and healing quilts of valor.”

Landini served in the United States Air Force from December 1953 to April 5, 1958. Upon entering the Air Force, he was stationed in North Carolina and then attended flight school in Texas where he flew to other countries. In 1954, he was stationed at Stallings Air Force Base, NC, where he flew PA-18 and TA-6 planes. He then served at Chandler, AZ. Flying T-28 and T-23 planes. Neillsville Police Collect Old Drugs (2023)

News: Neillsville Police Collect Old Drugs (2023)

In partnership with the Department of Justice and the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Neillsville Police Department collected three boxes of old prescription drugs totaling 86.8 lbs. April 22 during the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

The collection point was Russell’s of Neillsville parking lot, 1008 E. Division St., Neillsville. Below, Dennis Dayton saw the notice circulating on Facebook and decided to help his mother clean out the medicine cabinet now that his father had passed. Baumgartner, James R. “Jim” (9 July 1940 – 2 May 2023)

James “Jim” R. Baumgartner, age 82, of Colby, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at his home.

Jim was born on July 9, 1940, the son of Walter and Ella (Neuhaus) Baumgartner in the Town of Colby. He graduated from Colby High School in 1958. On July 15, 1961, Jim was united in marriage to Patricia Decker at St. Mary Catholic Church in Colby. He worked for over 43 at Packaging Corporation of America in Colby.

Jim enjoyed shooting pool, bowling, fishing, hunting and was a fan of the Packers, Brewers, Badgers and the Colby Hornets. He especially loved his annual fishing trip to Canada with his family which spanned over 20 years. Jim also built a hunting shack in 1976 with his boys and enjoyed over 60 years of deer hunting. Most importantly, he loved and cherished his family and will be greatly missed.

Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia; five sons: Brian (Peg) of Arcadia, Brad (Diane Kollock) of Almond, Kevin (Gail) of Westboro, Kirk (Lena) of Medford and Keith (Katie) of Edgar; 16 grandchildren: Sara (Tyler) Swenson, Jackie Baumgartner, Jenna Baumgartner, Kelsey (Brad) Barneson, Derek Baumgartner, Dan Baumgartner, Olivia Baumgartner, Micah (Brooke) Baumgartner, Alec (Brianna) Baumgartner, Tyler Moretz, Logan Baumgartner, Kayla Baumgartner, Brayden Baumgartner, Brett Baumgartner, Ella Baumgartner and Brody Baumgartner and ten great-grandchildren. He is further survived by two brothers-in-law: Larry (Diane) Decker and Ronnie Nelson; a sister-in-law, Irene Baumgartner; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; His four siblings: Donald, Lucille Nelson, Vernon (Dorothy) and Harold (Myrtle); and a sister-in-law, Barb Mueller.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Colby. Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Klancher, James Robert “Jim” (4 October 1928 – 30 April 2023)

James R. "Jim" Klancher, age 94, of Owen, formerly of Greenwood, peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.

James Robert Klancher was born on October 4, 1928, in West Allis, the only child of Frank J. and Caroline E. (Godec) Klancher. His parents moved to Willard in 1930, and Jim attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Greenwood through the 8th grade. He later worked at O&N Lumber in Greenwood, that later became United Building Center, which his father managed. Jim moved back to West Allis in 1965 and worked at Briggs & Stratton until retiring in 1985. He returned to Greenwood, and lived with his mother until her death in 2002. Jim remained at home until entering the Clark County Living & Rehab Center in Owen, in 2012.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the K.S.K.J. Lodge #136, and the Slovenska Druzba Club in Willard.

Jim had many interests, but especially loved Polka music, dancing, car rides, going out to eat, and socializing with anybody and everybody.

He is survived by cousins and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2023, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwood. Rev. Emmanuel Famiyeh will officiate, and burial will follow in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Willard, WI. The visitation will be held at the church, on Monday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Wolf, Monica Ann (14 July 1937 – 2 May 2023)

Monica Ann (Bangart) Wolf, age 85, of Spencer, loving wife and mother of 15 children, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at her home.

Monica was born on July 14, 1937, in the town of Rozellville, to Anthony & Mercedes (Kloos) Bangart. She attended St. Andrews Parochial School in Rozellville.

On November 12, 1955, she married the love of her life, Norman Wolf. Together they raised 9 girls and 6 boys in Loyal. There they owned/operated a farm and Wolf’s Sawmill until 1982. They were members of St. Anthony’s Church where Monica used her beautiful voice in the choir and donated any extra time, she had available to help for any special occasions there.

Monica had many hobbies such as crocheting, bowling, cards, pool, gardening, bird watch and playing various musical instruments with Norm and friends. She had some quick wit, a great smile, a huge heart and was extremely kind and compassionate to everyone she met.

Monica was preceded in death by son Allan M. Wolf. Her parents Tony & Mercedes Bangart, sisters Patsy Bangart, Sister Antoinette (Beatrice), Joann Aschebrock, brothers James Bangart, Terry Bangart, and Tom Bangart. Her Parents-In-laws, Frank & Mildred Wolf.

Monica is survived by her husband, Norman Wolf, her children, Joseph (Debi) Wolf, Marlene (John) Holdal, Lorraine (David) Deegan, Edward (Annmarie) Wolf, Theresa (Devery) Hilt, Kay (Keith) Raatz, Lyle (Julie) Wolf, Donna (Robert) Olson, Debra (Jody) Brecht, Tina (Mike) Berres, Cindy (Brian) Benz, Daniel (Jessica) Wolf, Barbara (Kevin) Dampier and William (Melody Best-friend) Wolf. 38 Grand-Children and 60 Great-Grandchildren.

The pallbearers will be Monica’s grandsons, Tyler Wolf, Rodney Deegan, Travis Wolf, Shaun Schober, Troy Shull, Kyle Wolf, Reggie Olson, Terry Brecht, Brendon Wolf and Scott Wolf.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ The King Catholic Church, 208 S. Lasalle Street, Spencer, on Monday, May 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Barry Saylor officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Loyal. Visitation for family and friends will be at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, 201 S. Lasalle Street, Spencer from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2023, and again one hour before the time of service at the church on Monday.

Snedic, William J. “Bill” (25 July 1933 – 1 May 2023) With Flag

William J. "Bill" Snedic, age 89, of Willard, passed away at Clark County Rehab & Living Center, in Owen, on Monday, May 1, 2023.

William John Snedic was born on July 25, 1933, in Sheboygan, to John A. and Ann E. (Trunkel) Snedic. In his early years, he was raised on his grandparent's farm in Willard, while his dad was working on the west coast camouflaging ships for the WWII war effort. Bill attended Willard State Graded School through the 8th grade, and then moved to Greenwood after his dad came home. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1951, and then went on to St. Norbert College and got degrees in both Biology and Philosophy. He was also a long-distance runner for the track team, running both the mile and two-mile in each meet, winning most of his races by wide margins. His yearbook states Bill was without a doubt the greatest distance runner St. Norbert's ever had, and held the school record for both distances. While in college, Bill joined the Army ROTC and served from November 18, 1955, until his honorable discharge on October 17, 1957. In 1970, he purchased the home he currently lived in at the base of North Mound. Bill was a carpenter by trade, and built many of the homes and buildings in and around Clark County. He was also a very skilled craftsman who could create anything he set his mind on doing.

Bill was very involved in the Willard community. He was a very active member of Holy Family Church, was a leader for many years with the Greenwood Cub and Boy Scouts, he taught CCD classes, served on the Town of Hendren board, was a member of the Knights of Columbus Lady of Fatima Council, and was involved in the Slovenska Druzba Club for many years. Bill was proud of his Slovenian heritage.

He had other interests, but especially loved reading, traveling the world and experiencing other cultures, fishing, hunting, his flower and vegetable gardens, and was well-known for his Strudel.

Bill is survived by one sister: Mary Ann (Ron) Snedic Wunderlin of Minneapolis, MN; one sister-in-law: Ruth Snedic of West Allis, WI; nieces, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, James, on May 12, 2022.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. Rev. Emmanuel Famiyeh will officiate, and burial will follow in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. The pallbearers will be, Billy Buss, Randy Fox, Robert Barth, Charles Steffen, Robert Trunkel and Roger Gregorich. Honorary pallbearers will be Mary Lou Behrens, Mary Lou Kirshner and Mary Darnell. Military rites will be conducted by the Greenwood American Legion Post #238. Visitation will be held at the church, on Friday, from 9 a.m. until time of service.

Stoddard, James Thomas (12 November 1965 – 2 May 2023) With Flag

James Thomas Stoddard, age 57, of Black River Falls, WI, passed away on May 2, 2023, at his sister’s home in Fairchild.

He was born on November 12, 1965, in Neillsville, to Wesley Stoddard Jr., and Bernice O’Brien. James graduated from Alma Center Lincoln High School in 1985. He then went into the Army in 1985, serving in South Korea and after his return worked at the Ho- Chunk Casino for 17 years and then worked for Abby Vans out of Neillsville, and Neillsville Taxi. He loved to hunt and fish.

He is survived by his parents, Wesley E. Stoddard Jr. and Bernice O'Brien; sister, Lani Wetzel (Christopher); two brothers Ken Stoddard and Randy Stoddard (Rose Sebastian); along with many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many family members that loved him dearly.

James is preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Bernice and Wesley Stoddard Sr.; maternal grandparents, George and Perleen Madland; sister, Lori Olson; cousin, Mark Johnson; cousin Debbie Johnson; cousin, Amy Stoddard; great nephew, Porter Micheal Gage Montgomery; Aunt Esther Gray; Uncle George Madland Sr.; along with many others.

Funeral services for James will take place Saturday, May 13, 2023; at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Terry Marg will officiate. Friends and family are invited to visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A burial will immediately be followed at Riverside Cemetery.
