Greisch, Cletus J. (13 JAN 1901 - 21 APR 1944)

Cletus J. Greisch, former resident of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital at Wausau at ten o’clock Friday morning, April 21, 1944. Mr. Greisch has not been in the best of health for several years, having suffered with diabetes, but was able to continue his work as publisher of the Edgar Newspaper. He worked up to Thursday evening but was taken ill during the night and rushed to the hospital.

The deceased was born on Jan. 13, 1901, in Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis., the son of the late Matt Greisch and Mrs. Mary Greisch, now of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After completing his schooling he taught for several years at Gilman, Wis., where he married Miss Lydia Zimmerman on June 15, 1927. In 1928 he became employed at "The Thorp Courier" office where he learned the business and two years later purchased the Edgar News, which he published until his death.

Mr. Greisch was a member of the St. John the Baptist Church Holy name Society and had served as secretary of the board of trustees of that church since January 1943. He was also a member of the school board for ten years.

The deceased had many friends in Thorp who deeply mourn his passing. As a friend and co-worker in the "Courier" office we found he could not be equaled.

Surviving are the widow and two sons, Jerome and John of Edgar and his mother, Mrs. Mary Greisch of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Funeral services were held on Monday morning at St. John the Baptist Church, Rev. Edwin Knauf officiating as celebrant of the solemn requiem mass. Father W. Kolman of Gilman and Father A.M. Muckerheide of Thorp served as deacon and sub-deacon.
