Rasmussen, Peter (28 OCT 1860 - 16 JUN 1944)
Peter Rasmussen passed away on June 16, 1944, after a prolonged illness of nearly four years. His age was 83 years, 7 months and 18 days. He was born in Denmark, Oct. 28, 1860. He came to America in 1882, locating first in Marshfield, where he worked two years in the sawmills, and then on farms until 1885. In that year he settled in the Withee township, Clark County, buying a farm of wild land, which he cleared and improved, selling it in 1897. During the next two years he lived in Thorp and then he bought a farm of 80 acres, three miles east of Stanley, where he resided with his family for about 40 years. He retired from farming in 1941, moved to Stanley, where he resided until he passed away.
Mr. Rasmussen was united in marriage to Anna Anderson, Aug. 9, 1889. To this marriage eleven children were born. Two children, George and Leland, preceded their father in death.
Surviving are his wife and five sons, Axel of Seattle, Wash.; Carl of Longview, Wash.; Walter and Everett of Kelso, Wash., and Robert of Stanley. Also four daughters, (Elsie) Mrs. Lyle Robeson of Sharpsville, Indiana; (Ida) Mrs. James Jordon of Longview, Wash.; (Mildred) Mrs. Donald Sayles of Eidsvold; and Mable at home. There are 25 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. One grandson, Peter Jordon, was killed in action somewhere in the southwest Pacific in October 1942, while serving the Navy.
Mr. Rasmussen was a beloved husband and father and a respected citizen and friend.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o’clock from Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Rev. J.N. Midtlien officiating. Interment was made in Eastside Cemetery at Thorp. Pallbearers were: Loran Bivans, William Blazel, Verne Peet, Roy Forster, Axel Anderson and William Jordan.
Those from out of town attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Robeson, Sharpsville, Ind., Miss Minnie Johnson, Taylor Falls, Minn., Mrs. Bulow and Mary Jean and Barbara Ann Rasmussen of Curtiss; Mrs. George Yoder and son George of Gilman; Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Jordon of Longview, Sash., now stationed at Madison.
