Helsten, Frederick (24 Oct. 1874 - 12 Sept. 1956)

Frederick Helsten, 81, South Main Road, Rockford, Illinois, a retired farmer, passed away Wednesday evening, September 12 at his home there.

Funeral services were held at the Wilbur Christenson Funeral Home in Rockford on Saturday afternoon with the Rev. Garfield O. Beckstrand officiating. Burial was made in the Scandinavian cemetery at Rockford.

Pallbearers, all nephews of the deceased were John Johnson and Alfred Johnson, Unity; Maurice Anderson, Walter Anderson and Victor Anderson, Spencer; and John Anderson, Weyauwega.

In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Max Woodkey, of Marshfield; Mrs. Gladys Krogness, Spencer; and Sandra and Charleen Elander of Rockford.

Mr. Helsten was born October 24, 1874 in Daarland, Sweden, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stalan Helsten. He immigrated from Sweden in 1895 to Colby and later moved to Spencer when he was married to Miss Hulda Olson November 20, 1898.

They operated a farm 3 miles northwest of Spencer until 16 years ago when they moved to Rockford, Illinois.

Surviving are his widow, 5 sons, Ivan, Edwin, Delmore and Kenneth, all of Rockford and Elmer, Spencer; 4 daughters, Mrs. Stanley E. Toft, Mrs. R. W. Elander, Mrs. Clifford Nelson and Mrs. George Nelson; a brother, Herman of Cheboygan, Mich.; and 8 grandchildren.
