Gordon Roy Mellenthin, 78, Colby, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, in the emergency room of St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, Wisconsin.
A memorial service was held Dec. 27 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, Wis. The Rev. Mark Neumann presided. Inurnment was in the Colby Memorial cemetery (Colby, Wisconsin).
Visitation was Dec. 27 at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby, Wis.
Gordon was born on July 31, 1922, in Unity, the son of Albert and Elsie (Schroeder) Mellenthin. He was a graduate of Spencer High School. He and the former Marion Frome were united in marriage on June 12, 1944, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, Wis.
He worked for Zellmer Department Store in Colby, Wis. He and his wife later purchased the clothing store and it was known as the Gor-Mar Department Store. They had a hobby farm in the town of Colby, Wis. Gordon moved to Colby in 1993 after the death of his wife. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher for many years.
Survivors include his two sons, Danne (Berna Jo) Mellenthin, Colby, and Dale (Sandy) Mellenthin, Forreston, Ill.; two brothers, Wilbur (Jean) Mellenthin, Spencer, and Oscar (Delores) Mellenthin, Beaver Dam; one sister, Eleanor Luepke, Spencer; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marion on May 10, 1992, daughter Dawn in 1970, brother Raymond and sister Shirley.
The family will establish a memorial in his name at a later date.
Maurina Funeral Home of Abbotsford assisted the family with arrangements.
