Celebrate Golden Wedding of Spencer Pioneer Couple

Spencer--Among the best know of the pioneer residents of this village are Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Damon, who on Thursday observed the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding by holding an open house at their home.

The marriage of A. A. Damon and Miss Carrie Heath, both living in Spencer at the time, was performed June 4, 1881, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Heath, by the Rev. E. W. Stevens, pastor of the Spencer Methodist Episcopal church and the couple were attended by Dr. G. H. Haddy and Miss Carrie Sanford also of Spencer.

Mr. and Mrs. Damon have resided here ever since, and have reared a family of 10 children, all of whom are living. They are: Misses Ina and Ethel Damon, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Frank Schofield and Miss Lucille Damon, Miller, S. D.; Grant and Glen Damon, Detroit, Mich.; Seth and Walter of Wausau; Frank of Minneapolis, and Fay of Beloit. All were present for the celebration except the latter, who visited on the previous Sunday and Monday.

Others who arrived from out of town for the occasion were Mr. Damon's brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Damon and a nephew, Harold Damon and family, all of Wausau; Mrs. J. R. Kuehnau of Unity, a sister to Mr. Damon; Miss Gladys Heath of Stevens Point, a niece of Mrs. Damon and Miss Violet Jacques of Wausau.

A color scheme of yellow and white was carried out in the rooms with crepe paper streamers and cut flowers, and the wedding cake was decorated with a miniature bride and groom. The same color scheme was used in the refreshments served to callers during the afternoon.

Many attractive gifts were presented to Mr. and Mrs. Damon, including a handsome basket of golden-hued and white flowers from the American Legion auxiliary, and two gold coins, one from the Royal Neighbors and the other from the Modern Woodmen, with which the two are respectively affiliated.

Mr. Damon is supervisor for the village, and had served on the county board for many years. Both he and Mrs. Damon are prominent in community social activities.
