2 Humbird Sons Killed; 1 Freed
Reports Received as German Collapse Nears
By Mrs. Clarence Olson
HUMBIRD - Reports of the deaths of two adopted sons of Humbird, and the release of a third from a prison camp in northern Germany, came to members of their families as the blazing European war reached its final phase last week.
Reported by the war department as killed in action in Germany were:
Cpl. Milton Muir and Louie Porth.
Cpl. Muir was the husband of the former Hazel Fitzmaurice, whose parents now reside on a farm near Neillsville. Mrs. Muir and her 15-month-old son, who have been living with her parents since her husband entered the service 2 ½ years ago, have gone to Beloit to be with her husband’s parents. Cpl. Muir has been overseas about eight months.
Louie Porth is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Porth of Alma Center, and the nephew of Mrs. Fred Theiler of Humbird.
Released from the German prison camp is Ernest Amport, a graduate of Humbird high school. The news was received here through his wife, the former Dorothy Hardwick, who is residing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mrs. Amport also is a Humbird high school graduate.
