Eight years of effort culminated Tuesday, June 29, 1976 when Greenwood’s newly remodeled clinic opened, and for the first time in 1 ½ years the doctors in it were Greenwood’s own.

Three doctors have come to Greenwood, and for at least two years, the Neillsville doctors who have kept the clinic open three or four days a weeks since 1975 can go back to relaxing on their days off.

The new physicians are St. Stuart Grossman, an internist; his wife, Dr. Linda Grossman, a pediatrician; and Dr. Thomas Rahilly, also an internist.

Greenwood has been without a doctor since December of 1974, when Dr. William A. Olson retired after 43 years of practice in the city. The community has searched for doctors since 1968. An organized clinic committee went into action when Olson announced his retirement in1973, deeding his clinic and equipment to Greenwood Festivals, Inc., the parent group in the doctor selection.

A massive mailing campaign to raise funds for remodeling the old Greenwood clinic, purchasing new equipment and providing operating capital began in Mid-June. The goals is $35,000 and clinic committee member George Moore, Greenwood, said that $12-$15,000 has been raised so far.

Starting a new job might be daunting for some people. Yet Paul Sullivan, the new advertising consultant at the “Clark County Press,” has experience in sales. He officially started his new position May 9.

Sullivan is originally from the Holmen/La Crosse area. He moved to Hatfield six years ago.

“I worked for WWIS Radio in a similar role,” Sullivan says. “It’s a new career change. I’m building my sales experience.”

Prior to working in sales at WWIS radio, Sullivan was employed in manufacturing management for 25 years. He only recently changed careers over a year ago.

In his new position at the “Press,” Sullivan gets to work mostly from home. “I like that it’s close to home and I can work at home,” he says. “It’ll keep me busy.”

With any new career change, there might be challenges. Sullivan hopes he has none. “I’m ready for whatever happens,” he says. “I have real hours now.” Sullivan hopes to achieve stability in his new position.

Sullivan is married and has seven children (all adults) and four grandkids. He has three dogs and two cats.

He takes over for Nancy Curtain, who has been with the “Clark County Press” for several years as the advertising sales rep and writer of human-interest stories. She will still be writing the “Neillsville News” column.

For information on advertisements in the “Clark County Press,” Paul Sullivan can be reached at 608-304-5895.

Prevail Bank has organized a Free Community Shred Day Event at each of its branches. In addition to providing citizens an identity theft safeguard, Prevail Bank will also donate $1 for each pound of paper shredded, up to $1,000 each at each location, for the benefit of a local nonprofit chosen by that Branch.

Prevail Bank’s branch in Owen has chosen W-O-W Kids Meals as its beneficiary.

The date of shredding at the Owen branch is May 1, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

A $5 per box donation is encouraged for more than three boxes. Everyone is invited to participate.
Shredding confidential information is strongly recommended. According to the IdentityTheft.org, the number of identity theft scenarios in the US is nearly three times higher than that of other countries.

Consumers aged 30 were the most victimized, followed by those 40-49. People need to safeguard their personal information. Credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services do exist.

More information relating to those services can be acquired through a Prevail Bank professional.

Prevail Bank is a community bank that is continuously looking for ways to give back, support those pursuing dreams and make things better in central Wisconsin.

While in high school, “Mike” was an academically strong student, National Honor Society and Badger Boys State. Cousins Barbara and Ellis Stoll took him into their home to complete his last year of high school after his mother’s death before attending college. Michael later paid his expenses working in the forestry industry while earning a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Minnesota (1984) in forest ecology.

In 1981, after joining the U.S. Army reserve officer training program, Mike was commissioned an Army 2nd Lieutenant. Later, he continued his education, earning a master’s degree in management (1993) and a master’s degree in business administration (1995), receiving honors in both.

Michael and Dora met during his first duty station at Fort Campbell, KY. They were married May 28, 1988. Stephen has signed with the U.S. Army and will pursue a career beginning as a 2nd Lieutenant once graduating from Radford University, VA. Dora remains a retired accountant and “old crusty Army wife” after following Michael to various adventures around the globe.

In 2012, he retired after 31 years of service. he served overseas in Egypt, Australia, Thailand, Japan and various stateside assignments; he also had combat tours in Iraq. His awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, 4th OLC; Meritorious Service Medal, 3rd OLC; Army Commendation Medal 2nd OLC; Joint Service Achievement Medal, 2nd OLC; and the Army Achievement Medal 1st OLC. He also earned the Expert Infantryman’s Badge; Senior Parachutist Badge; Air Assault Badge; and attended Jumpmaster School. At the time of his retirement, he served as chief, soldier branch, maneuver, aviation, soldier division, army capabilities integration center, HQ and U.S. Army training and doctrine command, Fort Eustis, VA. Upon his death, he served as operations research analyst, training support analysis and integration directorate, army training support center, Fort Eustis, VA.
