Stephenson, Gertrude L. (Marriage - 3 Mar. 1945)

The marriage of Miss Gertrude L. Stephenson of Blair to S/Sgt. Vernal J. Engebretson of Taylor, Wis., took place at Our Savior’s church at Thorp at 3 o’clock on Saturday afternoon, March 3. The Rev. M. T. Jensen performed the ceremony. Mrs. Jensen played organ music during the service.

Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Stephenson, 504 Sixth Ave., Eau Claire, brother and sister-in-law of the bride.

Following the ceremony a wedding dinner was served at the Theodore Stephenson home. Sgt. Engebretson has recently returned to the U.S. after serving in the European area for nearly two years. He was with an armored division and took part in the campaigns in Africe, Sicily and Belgium. He has been awarded the Silver Star. At the end of his furlough he will report to Ft. Sheridan for reassignment.

The bride has been a teacher in Thorp for the past five years. She is now teaching the third grade and will resume her school work at the end of S/Sgt. Engebretson’s leave.
