Helga L. Andersen
STEVENS POINT -- Helga L. Andersen, 89, of Whiting, formerly of Owen, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at St. Michael's Hospital.
Helga was born March 25, 1919, to the late Sam and Katherine (Jacobsen) Andersen in Owen. She grew up there, attended the local schools, and graduated high school. She later attended the University of Minnesota to become a nurse.
Helga worked for Hansen Office Supply for a time as a store keeper and later caught on at Badger Shooter in the Owen area. She then had the opportunity to help her brother Einer set up and run Andersen Office Supply in Mauston. Later in life, Helga worked for Clark County Health Care Center as a bookkeeper. She worked there for more than 11 years.
Helga was known for her heartfelt passion for helping people. She cared for her parents when her mother and father became ill. She was an active member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee and worked on several committees. She also enjoyed singing and was a member of the parish choir. Helga later attended Trinity Lutheran Church when she moved to the Stevens Point area. She enjoyed playing cards, golfing, entertaining, and cooking Danish pastries. Helga valued her Danish heritage and enjoyed visiting her ancestry with her sister.
She is survived by her sister, Agnes Jones of Stevens Point; nephew, Jim (Katie Lawlar) Jones; nephew, Jim (Julie) Andersen and their children, Josh Rhein and Rachel Meehan; nephew, Bob (Claudia) Andersen and their children Kelly, Allisen, Bree, and Katie; and nephew, Gary (Lori) Andersen and their children Karie and Brad.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Einer.
A time for sharing memories will be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Boston Funeral Home, Stevens Point. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee, with the Rev. Andrew Hinwood officiating. Burial will be held in the parish cemetery.
