Neitzel, Catherine (25 Nov. 1864 - 24 Apr. 1945)

Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Neitzel, 80, formerly of Curtiss, were held Friday afternoon, April 27, at the Owen funeral home, the Rev. David Grether, pastor of the Evangelical and Reformed church at Colby, officiating. Burial took place in the Norwegian Lutheran cemetery at Curtiss. Mrs. Neitzel died Tuesday evening, April 24, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Albert Kuehling in Neillsville, where she had come only a few days earlier for medical treatment. She had been in failing health about a year.

Mrs. Neitzel was born Catherine Mengel, at Farmington, Wis., on November 25, 1864. She spent her early life there, and on January 15, 1888, was married to William Neitzel, who preceded her in death twelve years ago. They resided on a farm near Curtiss for several years and later moved to the village of Curtiss. Soon after the death of her husband, she gave up her home and in later years has lived with her children.

Surviving are a son and four daughters: Lawrence of Abbotsford; Alma, Mrs. Ralph Green, Bluffton, Ind.; Laura, Mrs. Ralph Bublitz, Owen; Mabel, Mrs. Harold Hanson, Park Falls; Myra, Mrs. Albert Kuehling, Neillsville. One son, Emery, was killed in a traffic accident in 1943. All of the surviving children were present for the funeral services.

Mrs. Neitzel had 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Four of her grandchildren are in the service. They are: Second Lieut. Warren Kuehling, Pvt. Delbert Neitzel, Pvt. James Neitzel and Joyce Hanson, a SPAR.
