Burnett, Charles T. #2 (JUL 1846 - 8 DEC 1901)
Charles Thomas Burnett died Sunday morning shortly after 1 o’clock, at the home of his son Frank, in this city (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.), of ulceration of the stomach, aged 55 years and 9 months. He was taken sick at Madison and brought home by his daughter, Miss Jennie. He had held a position on the capitol police force for four months, and with his wife had moved to Madison, and they were keeping house.
The funeral was held Monday at 2 p.m., the G.A.R. post veterans escorting the remains from the house to the M.E. Church, where Rev. A.V. Ingham conducted services, the post and W.R.C. assisting, and accompanying the remains to the cemetery.
Deceased was born in Cheshire, England; came to this country when young, enlisted in the Union army when under age, serving three years, and was a pensioner. Settled here about 20 years ago. He leaves six children - Frank, Jenny, Charles, Mrs. Cora Kerns, Mrs. Kate Davis and the little daughter.
The funeral was attended by Supt. Allen, C.C. Bennett and S.S. Runnells of the capitol police force, and a letter of condolence was sent by Gov. LaFollette. At the grave a short invocation and squad firing by a troop of Co. A. militiamen were the only ceremonies, the post ritual reading having taken place at the church.
