Houghton, Elizabeth A. #2 (2 NOV 1845 - 11 JAN 1902)
Mrs. E.P. Houghton died Saturday, after a long illness, aged 56 years. She had wasted away until there was little of the "tenement of clay" for the vital spark to abide in.
Services were held at the residence at 10 a.m. Monday by Rev. A.V. Ingham, and taken on the noon train and accompanied to Merrillan, hence by team to Houghtonberg, and buried there. Rev. Kershaw of Merrillan officiating, J.R. Sturdevant, Ezra Tompkins, E.D. Webster and C.S. Stock acting as pallbearers.
Deceased was born in Ohio in 1845. She had lived at Houghtonberg since 1855; and moved here five years ago, when Mr. Houghton was elected country treasurer. She leaves three children, Mrs. Mary Metcalf of Marengo, Ill., and Ira and Ralph Houghton. Mrs. Houghton’s maiden name was Elizabeth Nettleton. Her death resulted from tuberculosis.
Mrs. Houghton was a lady of refined presence and of bright and happy disposition, a general favorite. Her friends realize that death came to her as a friend, releasing her from suffering that could only end so.
