C. M. ANDERSON DIE EIGHT HOURS APART

Longwood Couple had Come More than 50 Years Ago From Norway

Greenwood - A double funeral service were held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Longwood on Saturday afternoon, October 7, for Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Anderson, who both passed away at their home three miles west of Longwood on Wednesday, October 4. Mr. Anderson, 82, who passed away from a heart attack, had been ill with the flu two weeks ago and preceded his wife in death by eight hours. Mrs. Anderson, 77, suffered with a tumor and has been ailing for some time.

The Rev. A. E. Norson officiated at the rites. Interment was made in the Longwood Cemetery.

Gifts in memoriam were given to the Homme Children’s home, Old People’s Home and for the missions.

Pallbearers were John Ericksmoen, John Awe, Henry Sorenson, Julius Bredesen, Leonard Klerko, Herman Thiel, Fred Scherf, Alvin Thorson, Melvin Erickson, Lucius Bowen, Jess Capes and Walter Needham.

Charles M. Anderson was born in Solar, Norway, July 3, 1862 and his wife Gyda (Gunderson) Anderson was also born in Solar, Norway, on January 3, 1867.

They were baptized, confirmed and married in Norway. Mr. Anderson came in October, 1887, from Norway to Withee, where he worked in the logging camps. In 1892 he returned to Norway, where he spent six months with his wife before returning to Withee. There he bought the land and built a log house which is part of the present farm home. Mrs. Anderson and daughter Gunda came in 1894 and they lived together with the Tom Bredesen family for a few years.

They were charter members of the Immanuel Lutheran Congregation, of which Mr. Anderson acted as secretary for 40 years. Mrs. Anderson was also an early member of the Ladies’ Aid.

They are survived by their six children: Mrs. (Gunda Awe) Sorenson of Longwood; Oscar and Arthur, at home; Myron of Appleton; Mrs. Carl (Caroline) Chivington of Appleton; and Melvin of Withee. Eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
