PEOPLE'S STATE BANK--THORP, WISCONSIN

Two brothers from McHenry Co., Illinois, Frank and Llewellyen Orestes Garrison were associated together in the banking business in Thorp, Clark Co., Wisconsin. Jan, 1, 1885, they organized into a private bank, which was the first bank in town and the only one for several years. Later it was incorporated as a state bank under the style of Peoples' State Bank of Thorp.
In subsequent years, Herman Friess, president of the Farmers' Exchange Bank of Thorp, was also stockholder in the Peoples State Bank of Thorp and owned a considerable number of properties in around the village.
*Frank (18 Nov 1852 - 11 Dec 1905) and Llewellyen were the sons of Orestes and Caroline Viol (Sheldon) Garrison. Orestes was born 13 Aug 1813 in Ft. Ann, Washington Co., NY and died 3 Jun 1874 in Centralia, Wood Co., Wis. The boys mother, Caroline, was born 24 Mar 1821 and died 12 Jun 1899. Orestes and Caroline were married 30 Mar 1842.
