Murphy, Barbara (16 DEC 1872 - 25 DEC 1941)

Barbara Murphy, 69, died at 1:10 Thursday morning, Dec. 25, at her home in the village. Although Mrs. Murphy had been an invalid for many years, she had been confined to her bed since Dec. 7th, only.

Barbara Zinthefer was born in Kellnerville, Wisconsin, December 16, 1872. She moved with her parents to Hewitt in 1881. In February, 1891, she was married to Thomas A. Murphy in St. Michael’s Catholic church, Hewitt. Shortly after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Murphy moved to the village of Loyal and resided here thereafter.

Mrs. Murphy was a member of the Ladies Altar Society of St. Anthony’s Catholic church.

Mr. Murphy preceded his wife in death April 12, 1939.

Surviving are two sons, William of Loyal and Joseph of Durand, three grandchildren, two brothers, Alois Zinthefer of Hewitt and Charles Zinthefer of Bakerville, and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Leonhard of Dorchester and Mrs. Mary Hardinger of Marshfield.

Funeral services were held at 9 o’clock Saturday morning, Dec. 27, at St. Anthony’s church in Loyal, The Rev. Aloys Zinthefer, local pastor and nephew of Mrs. Murphy, officiated at the requiem high mass. He was assisted by the Rev. Arthur Heindl, who is assistant pastor of St. John’s Catholic church in Marshfield. He is also a relative of Mrs. Murphy.

Burial was in the local Catholic cemetery.

Those serving as pallbearers were John Christman, Henry Vogel, John Geiger, Joe Wedl, Leo Theisen and Albert Davel.

Among those from out of town attending the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Murphy, Durand; Mrs. Mary Hardinger, Mr. and Mrs. John Hardinger and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hardinger, Frank Hardinger, Fred Hardinger, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Leonard and daughter, Miss Helen Heindl and the Rev. Arthir Heindl all of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Zinthefer and family, Bakerville; Mrs. Elizabeth Leonard, Mrs. Fred Leonard and Mr. and Mrs. Nick Heindl and family all of Dorchester; Alois Zinthefer, Engelbert Zinthefer and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Zinthefer and family, all of Hewitt, and Mr. and Mrs. Pat J. Murphy, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Mrs. Joseph Murphy has been here since Dec. 13 helping care for her mother-in-law.
